Sri Lanka faces ‘worst beach pollution’ in history from burning cargo ship

A fire onboard a cargo vessel off Sri Lanka’s coast continues to rage for the 11th day straight, causing what could be the worst marine pollution in history for the region.

Marine Insurance is Important!

I hope the owners of cargo on board this ship have Marine Insurance… 

The 3 month old cargo ship MV X-Press Pearl had a fire erupt while off the coast of Sri Lanka, believed to be caused by chemicals that were being transported. The ship carrying 1486 containers including 25 tonnes of nitric acid (and other chemicals) had 5 tug boats and a navy ship anchored nearby engaged in firefighting efforts.
