Three Arrested Over 45kg of Cocaine Hidden in Jukebox From Greece

Three men were arrested last week as part of a Joint Organised Crime Taskforce (JOCTF) investigation into the importation of cocaine into Melbourne. The arrests followed the importation of approximately 45kg of cocaine hidden in a jukebox from Greece, which was detected by Australian Border Force officers.

A 39-year-old Spotswood man, 26-year-old Reservoir man and a 66-year-old Greek foreign national were all arrested by police on Tuesday.

Freight Forwarder Receives Large Fine for Smuggling 7000 Litres of Korean Alcohol

A man already serving a term of imprisonment for importing illicit tobacco into Australia has been fined $20,000 this week in the Perth Magistrates Court after pleading guilty to a separate alcohol smuggling offence under the Customs Act.

The Korean national was charged with one count of smuggling dutiable goods, after Australian Border Force (ABF) officers examined a sea container arriving at Fremantle Port concealing more than 7,000 litres, or 999 boxes of soju, a popular alcoholic drink in Korea.

Victorian Man Sentenced for Illegal Importation of 10 Million Cigarettes

On 11 January 2019, the Illicit Tobacco Taskforce (ITTF) led investigations which identified a sea cargo container that held about 10 million illegally imported cigarettes. The contents of the container had been declared as “office furniture”. 

The illegal cigarettes had a potential duty evaded value of more than AUD $8.5 million. 

On receipt of the goods, the man was arrested and charged with tobacco smuggling offences under section 233BABAD of the Customs Act 1901 after accessing the container.

WA Resident Charged Over Cocaine Mail Import

A 24-year-old man is expected to face Perth Magistrate’s Court charged over the importation of cocaine embedded in clothing.

Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force launched an investigation after ABF officers examined a package from South America last month and allegedly found a white powdery substance in the fibres of ponchos and bikinis.

A 32-year-old Brisbane man is scheduled to face Brisbane Magistrates Court after the Queensland Joint Organised Task Force (QJOCTF) charged him with importing 83kg of methamphetamine allegedly hidden inside hollowed-out timber pallets.

Three men have been charged by the Victorian Joint Organised Crime Taskforce (JOCTF) for an alleged attempt to import 140 kilograms of methamphetamine into Australia concealed in catering equipment.

The men faced Melbourne Magistrates Court via video link on Wednesday (17 November 2021) and were remanded in custody, accused of facilitating the importation of the drugs from Canada into Melbourne.

Three men will appear in Southport Magistrates Court for allegedly importing 1.5 kg of cocaine inside a PlayStation 5, which was bound for the Gold Coast.

The cocaine had an estimated street value of $346,500, more than six times the median Australian annual wage.

Queensland Woman Charged with Importing 14kg of Methamphetamine

A 29-year-old Queensland woman has faced Southport Magistrates Court charged with allegedly importing about 14kg of methamphetamine from Mexico.

Australian Border Force (ABF) officers identified the alleged drugs concealed inside boxes labelled as Mexican handicrafts that had arrived in international airfreight at Brisbane Airport.

Presumptive testing of a white powder concealed in the boxes returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
